Bruce Alumni Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Bruce Alumni Scholarship Fund is to annually grant scholarships to help graduates of Bruce High School further their post-secondary education.
The Bruce Alumni Scholarship was created in 1995 by the Bruce High School Class of 1960 at their 35th class reunion. A classmate from Alaska couldn’t attend the reunion but ordered a case of champagne to be served with dinner. Several bottles remained unopened after the meal, so someone suggested auctioning off the remaining champagne and the beautiful floral centerpiece to raise money to establish a scholarship fund. By the end of the evening, over $800 had been donated!
Since then, numerous contributions have been made by various individuals and other BHS classes. The first Bruce Alumni Scholarship was awarded in 2001. Since then, 98 scholarships have been awarded, ranging from $300 to $500 each, totaling over $38,500!
The Fund is professionally managed by the Rusk County Community Foundation, a non-profit established to provide services to organizations in Rusk County. The Foundation is overseen by a volunteer board of directors, including several Bruce Alumni. Individuals, families, businesses, and alumni can contribute to support local causes.
